ABOUT ME
Born in San Francisco, California, I have lived for more than 20 years in France and offer online consultations in both English and French.
In addition to the challenges posed by parenting, illness, separation, death of a loved one, and the particular difficulties unique to these modern times, I am specially poised to understand the confusing, alienating, and liberating aspects of living abroad.
Before becoming a therapist I had a long career in the theatre as an actor and a director both in New York and then in Paris. My practice reflects this artistic past -- many of my patients themselves work or have worked in cinema and the performing arts.
I am also a parent of two boys and know well the difficulties and great joys of raising children, especially in a foreign country.
I approach therapy as a practice : a practice in being more deeply human.
I am passionately curious about the human experience, be it the incredible discoveries being made in neuroscience and cognitive behavioural science, or millennial techniques from Buddhist, Yogic and other spiritual traditions. I stay up to date with current research and share pertinent findings with my patients so that they may better understand how their body and mind are functioning.
I place great importance on becoming increasingly aware of how emotions are being felt in the body and often give "homework" between sessions -- behaviours or physical states to observe, writing assignments, books to read or walks in nature to take. I publish regular articles on Substack which is another way for patients to stay connected between sessions.
One of the best parts of being a therapist is that in every session I am reminded both about the universality of our humanity, and the absolute uniqueness of each person's life experience.
It would be my pleasure to work with you to help you elucidate what holds meaning for you, and what makes your life full, important, and unique.
